Q. Is Import Registration Certificate (IRC) mandatory to import into Bangladesh?


Answer:

Yes, valid IRC is must unless not exempted in the Importers, Exporters and Indentors (Registration) Order, 1981. However, the requirement of IRC is exempted in following two cases: i) LC for import of capital machinery and initial spares for setting up new industrial unit may be allowed without IRC (para 8(16)(a)(iv) of Import Policy Order, 2015-18) and
ii) individuals or institutions may import permissible items valued up to US Dollar seven thousand for their own use under cash foreign exchange without IRC (para 11(i) of Import Policy Order, 2015-18).
